American Development Model (ADM)
Ages: 5 to 9 years old
American Development Model Overview
The ADM Program at Morgan Park Sports Center is designed to incorporate all of the major skills needed to play ice hockey at a competitive level. In keeping with the American Development Model –as it was outlined by USA Hockey – our ADM Program will develop each player’s basic skills while also encouraging creativity and hockey sense.
The goal of the American Development Model is to provide each player with as many puck touches as possible while emphasizing key hockey fundamentals.
The ADM utilizes long-term athlete development principles as its framework. LTAD principles can be used as a basis on which to make our existing systems and structures more consistent. Developed by coaches, educators and child specialists, and adapted to ice hockey by USA Hockey, the principles of LTAD are rooted in successful programs throughout the world.
The ADM is USA Hockey’s nationwide player-development program for youth hockey associations. It’s based on age-appropriate, age-specific competition and training for boys and girls, beginning with their first steps onto the ice and carrying them through age 18 and beyond. The ADM places heightened emphasis on skill development and long-term athlete development principles, providing a blue print for the best possible youth hockey experience.
The Chicago Horned Frogs employ the mentality that skill attainment and development must come first. We believe in utilizing ice hockey as a vehicle to establish a culture of well-rounded athletes who, along with their parents and coaches, exemplify our core values, which exists both on and off the ice. Our goal is to highlight the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, responsibility, and an understanding that youth hockey is a game that is meant to be enjoyed by everyone involved.
