Ice Skating Coordinator
Kathy Janik grew up skating, then coaching at McFetridge Sports Center on Chicago’s North Side. She has been coaching 18 years, is a rated coach by the Professional Skaters Association (PSA), and an adamant part of the Chicago skating community. Janik was a member of the Chicago Skates synchronized skating team from 1990-2004 and she skated Synchro competitively at the regional and national level. She joined the McFetridge coaching staff in 2002, coaching private lessons, Learn-to-Skate classes of all ages, and the Intermediate and Open Juvenile Chicago Skates teams. From 2006 – 2015 she was the Head Coach of the Northwestern University Synchronized Skating team, helping them earn their first Sectional Champion title. In 2013, she was named Figure Skating and Synchronized Skating Manager at McFetridge Sports Center
Janik was named Figure Skating Coordinator at Morgan Park Sports Center, when the facility opened in 2015. Janik considers her biggest accomplishment to be how many of her skaters graduate and continue to skate in college because of their love for it. Janik’s coaching philosophy tries to instill a love for the sport of Skating in her students, and strives to help mold not only the athlete, but the person as well. She continues her growth and knowledge of the sport of skating and the International Judging System through seminars, reading, national conferences and networking at international competitions.
